Final Rehearsals For Hairspray
Congratulations on a spectacular opening weekend!! But you know me, there is work to still be done to ensure that we deliver equally (if not better) shows this weekend :). That said -- here is the schedule below.
Please note that these are serious rehearsals -- no fooling or joking around. You'd be surprised how much you might not remember even after only a few days. Plus, we will use these rehearsals to put Josh and Christian in as Spritzer and IQ for the Friday 3/18 performance (Scott Cope has a college audition that day, but will be back for closing night), so we owe it to them as a cast and crew to make sure they have a rehearsal that is as close to performance level as possible.
We have received incredible feedback on the show -- we got there because of the dedication and hard work necessary. Let's keep it up this week so we really go out on top!! Thanks.
Thursday 3/17 1 -2pm
Speedthrough of scenes for :Tracy, Link, Edna, Wilbur, Penny, Seaweed, Velma, Amber, Prudy, Spritzer (Josh) IQ, (Christian), Corny Collins, Motormouth, Little Inez, Seaweed's entourage (MEN ONLY NO BEATNIKS) Holly as the matron, Dynamites and Council Members in ROLL
CALL. 4:00-7:00pm Full rehearsal for all cast, pit and crew. (No costumes, hair or makeup for this rehearsal). Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Odds and Ends
Everyone will need to bring the following:
Wipes: Ponds makeup remover is the best… baby wipes are for baby bottoms
Towel: After using the Ponds wipes, you need to rinse your face…
They have “soap” on them.
Girls: You must bring your own black mascara
All girls (AND EDNA) need to bring fake eyelashes AND glue.
On March 3rd, you will be provided with an applicator for the base makeup… it is your responsibility to keep this with your makeup supplies and bring it to all rehearsals the week of March 7th through the end of the performances. Replacement cost will be $5.00 if you do not bring the applicator with you or if you lose it.
Please note that street makeup is not feasible for a stage your size. Theatre makeup will be provided.
Bring these items in some kind of a bag/container with your name on it.
Take care of your skin. This means washing your face after every rehearsal/performance and using a moisturizer. The combination of the lights, makeup and sweat is the perfect breeding ground for acne… You can avoid this by being sure to wash after the performance and moisturize your skin (this includes boys!).
DO NOT USE THE THEATRE MAKEUP PROVIDED IF YOU HAVE SKIN ALLERGIES
OR ANY KIND OF INFECTION!
If you have any questions/concerns, please email Ms. Jenn at jlomakeup@yahoo.com or Kinga at kibak@att.net
PINBACK BUTTONS are available if you come to talk to me -- Matt and I can answer any questions about buttons :)
Thanks!

The Show Must Go On!
Hey everyone!
Remember:
If you have been unable to attend a rehearsal, you must get a friend to catch you up ASAP.
Learn your lines, learn your lyrics, learn your music, and learn your dances.
No excuses anymore.
After February break, every single rehearsal is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY.
NO leaving early, and NO arriving late.
Arrange rides ahead of time, and try to reschedule any conflicts you may have. If you do not attend a rehearsal, rehearsal will not stop for you. We will not "hold your place" and we may need to rearrange who performs in which numbers if you are not present. Don't give us that chance.
That being said, please show up to rehearsals on time, full of energy, well-fed, and with proper footwear. Keep up the positive energy, everyone! We will make this a fabulous show.

Rehearsal for Sat., Jan. 22nd - Update!
Hey everyone,
Please note that Saturday's (Today's) schedule has been slightly altered -- the only change that will affect getting rides, etc., is that the full cast will be rehearsing until 2:45, not 2:15 as previously stated. If this is an issue, because we realize this is short notice, please come talk to Ms. Harris, and we will excuse you -- but do your best to stay a bit longer!
12:00-12:45pm -- read/through & scene work with all prinicpals: Corny, Velma, Amber, Penny, Prudy, Tracy, Wilbur, Edna, Link, Seaweed, Little Inez, Motormouth & Spritzer. Everyone listed is to arrive at noon.

2:00-2:45pm -- Baltimore & Big Doll House -- also sing-through of Welcome to the 60's & It Takes Two -- Full cast
2:45-4:00pm -- Run & Tell That -- Everyone in the number
Friday, January 21, 2011
Rehearsal for Sat., Jan. 22nd
Here is the projected schedule for Saturday's rehearsal:
12:00-12:45pm -- read/through & scene work with all prinicpals: Corny, Velma, Amber, Penny, Prudy, Tracy, Wilbur, Edna, Link, Seaweed, Little Inez, Motormouth & Spritzer. Everyone listed is to arrive at noon.
12:45-1:45pm -- You Can't Stop the Beat -- full cast
1:45-2:15pm -- Baltimore & Big Doll House -- Full cast
2:45-4:00pm -- Run & Tell That -- Everyone in the number
More Rehearsal Updates
3:00- Nicest Kids
3:20- Hairspray
4:00- Cooties (same contingent as the Hairspray contingent)
4:15- Without Love (does not include Featured Dancers)
4:40- It Takes Two (just Tracy & the guys)
Obviously the specific times are subject to change, but, for example, it's safe for Featured Dancers to expect to be done by 4:30, all women other than Tracy probably done by about 4:45 or so.
Also, we're still a drop short on Featured Singers for today... could be that several plan on coming and just haven't officially RSVP'd. Any word on Kathryn, Mandy, Diana, Becca, Alina, Lizzy or Melanie?
Thanks. Looking forward to having a rehearsal!
Rehearsal for Fri., Jan. 21st (Update!)
We will cover Hairspray, Without Love, Cooties (at least an introduction to it), It Takes Two and Nicest Kids in Town.
Once again... there is no penalty for not attending, as the circumstances are unusual here... simply do your best (who knows, maybe someone else can give you a ride?) and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, be safe!
Rejoice! The sun is shining! All is not lost today!
See many of you later on!
Dr. Nash
Rehearsal for Fri., Jan. 21st
So… once again, no school today.
Let me just throw this idea out there. Given that the snow is supposed to stop by 11 this morning, assuming that conditions were safe, how many would be available if we had a music rehearsal from 3:00-5:00 for the following groups only and… with the following conditions…
a) only Tracy, Penny, Amber, Link, Seaweed, Featured Singers, Featured Dancers, Spritzer and Corny… to rehearse Hairspray, Cooties, Nicest Kids in Town, Without Love & It Takes Two
b) OPTIONAL… in other words, if you can’t get there safely or even just can’t get there (as in, your ride was supposed to be the bus in the morning and there’s no other way for you to get there), you’re 100% excused!
- We will NOT have any rehearsal unless a significant enough contingent replies that they are willing and able to be there.
- If a smaller group is available within this group, we’ll adjust the plan accordingly (for example, if only the featured singers can make it, we’ll work on songs that they’re in… if only Tracy, Penny & Amber can make it, we’ll work on their solo songs… I’ll take whatever I can get at this point!!!!!!)
- No pressure whatsoever to get there if you (or your parents) feel that the conditions are unsafe.
We’ll make an official decision one way or the other by 2:00. Please try to reply by around 12 or 1 so that a) we can actually see how much snow has fallen and what it’s really like; b) we have enough replies to make an informed decision. … even if your answer is a resounding NO, please reply so that we know as soon as possible where things are headed.
Thanks!
Dr. Nash

Tuesday Jan. 18th and Weekend Rehearsal
I wanted to be sure that everyone knows that we will NOT be having any rehearsal today.
Attention:
Due to these continued winter weather events, Ms. Harris and Dr. Nash would like to have a rehearsal this Saturday on stage at GHS. 12 noon to 4pm is the time so please make every effort you can to be there. The time will really start to go by quickly, and March will be here before you know it... so we need to be ready.
Please, please study music, lines and rehearse choreography. You want all of this to be second nature to you when we open -- so you can have the best show and most fun possible. Thanks for your continued hard work!

Potential Snowday
In the unlikely event of a school cancellation tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan. 18th) we may or may not still have rehearsal, depending on the severity of the storm.
If school is cancelled, please keep checking your emails just in case.
This will only happen if we end up with a rain situation and not snow or ice, so please don't feel we'll be asking you to come out in dangerous weather.

Attendance Issues
Hey everyone,
First of all, I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you who have been so consistent in attending rehearsals when you are called. *Gold star*
Those of you who had Eastern Region on Friday, it is okay, your absences have been excused, marked as "Field Trip."
Any absences about which Ms. Harris and Dr. Nash are already aware are excused unless we run into bigger problems later down the line.
However, there are many of you who feel you are excused if you aren't able to get a ride to or from rehearsal. The biggest example of this is that people frequently leave early from rehearsal in order to catch the Activity Bus... and in the case of this past Friday, some people don't come at all if there is no Activity Bus.
You are encouraged to talk to your friends at rehearsal and organize carpools if you do not think you will be able to get a ride to or from rehearsal.
- If you are called until a certain time at rehearsal, you are expected to stay until that time.
- Leaving early to catch the Activity Bus counts as an unexcused leave.
- And, missing rehearsal because you aren't able to get a ride counts as an unexcused absence.

Drama Club Updates - January 2011
1. Please see the attached Ads form for the Hairspray Playbill. (These are on the website) We need to have each one of you sell at least 4 ads each. If you're unable to do that you will have points deducted depending on how many you've sold. It's not that hard to make a few phone calls visit a few friends or businesses and sell some ads.
These forms need to be filled out and returned with checks by February 10th. Please return them to me or Tori Wohler. If you have any questions concerning ads
please email Tori: luvlax3210@gmail.com
2. Mr. Woods sent out a email on my behalf last week asking for everyone to send any anticipated absences for the duration of the Hairspray production and so far only 5 people have responded. I'm hoping that means the rest of you are not planning to miss a single rehearsal. If you haven't done so please respond with any dates that you think you may be unable to be at a rehearsal as today is the deadline for that information.
If you're looking to speak with me you can either email and setup a time(best idea) or stop by my office (located in the hallway behind the cafe) but realize that I'm not always here so it may be best to contact me first.
Thanks so much!

Absence Policy
Now that the dust has settled and we have an idea of who exactly is a part of this cast, the time has come to address the issue of attendance. It goes without saying that attendance has been very inconsistent thus far, with people regularly coming late to rehearsal or leaving very early and often not coming at all... often without letting us know in advance. Beginning in January, the following attendance policy will be in effect:
1) You MUST let us know by Friday, January 7th about ALL conflicts that you know about from now until the end of the show. Even if there are rehearsals when you need to arrive late or leave early, you need to let us know about this in advance. (Based on this, we can determine whether your participation in the show in the role that you are cast is still viable). Please give this information to Laura Cryan either in writing or by e-mail.
2) If you have TWO unexcused absences, we reserve the right to remove you from the cast. The only "excused" absences are a) illness; b) family emergency; c) a conflict that you have let us know about by January 7th and that has been approved by us.
If you have any questions please contact Mr. Merisotis, the Drama Club Advisor, at merisotisc@glastonburyus.org.
Sincerely,
The Hairspray and Drama Club Team
